Datto RMM integration instructions - previous user interface

This article provides instructions on how to integrate Datto RMM to Lifecycle Manager to pull configuration items from Datto RMM. API keys should be associated with a user account that is separate from your Datto RMM administrative account.

Prerequisites

The following is required to add a Datto RMM integration to Lifecycle Manager

  • You must have Administrator user credentials for your Datto RMM account

  • You must have Administrator user credentials for your Lifecycle Manager account or member permissions of Manage Sync Settings selected

  • a non-administrative Datto RMM user, with two-factor authentication (2FA), to associate with your Lifecycle Manager integration

API credential generation - Only Datto RMM administrator users can generate API credentials when they are logged into Datto RMM. Datto RMM users without administrative rights cannot generate API credentials.

To successfully integrate Datto RMM with Lifecycle Manager, please follow these steps in each article section:

An important aspect of the Datto RMM integration is that it’s an API key that can only be used to access data through the API- it’s not possible to sign into Datto RMM with an API key, nor can permissions be changed on it. To minimize any potential risk concerns when making requests to the API, we strongly suggest creating a user with zero security level permissions.

Using Datto RMM previous interface - The integration steps in Datto RMM are based on a previous interface. Once you have logged into Datto RMM, ensure that the Previous Interface menu option is selected to ensure a smooth integration experience. We are working to include the new instructions on the current Datto RMM interface as quickly as possible.

Create a Lifecycle Manager integration user

You need to create a Datto RMM user that will be associated with your Lifecycle Manager integration (we recommend doing this as it makes managing users easier). Datto RMM usernames need to be unique across the entire platform.

  1. Within the Datto RMM menu, navigate to Setup Users. The Users view is displayed which is where you add and manage users.

  2. Click the New User button.

  3. Enter a unique username. Using an email address is recommended.

  4. Select the user's default security level by clicking the radio button next to the security level. Administrative rights are not required for this user. An example security level is displayed in the following image.

  5. Click the Save button.

Enable two-factor authentication

Two-factor authentication (2FA) must be enabled for the newly created Lifecycle Manager integration user account.

  1. Within the Datto RMM menu, navigate to Setup My Info.

  2. In the Security Settings section, click Datto Portal User Settings. The User Settings page in the Datto Partner Portal will open.

  3. In the Two-Factor Authentication section, click Configure.

Complete instructions for setting up two-factor authentication for Datto RMM users can be found at the Datto RMM help center.

Activate API

First, the API needs to be enabled for the entire Datto RMM account. For each user requiring API access, an API Key and API Secret Key must be generated.

  1. Sign in to Datto RMM as an Administrator

  2. Within the Datto RMM menu, navigate to Setup Account Settings

  3. In the Access Control section, set the Enable API Access to ON
When the Enable API Access toggle is set to ON, you are able to generate API credentials (the API Key and API Secret Key).

  4. Click Setup Users and select the username for which API access is desired. See the Create the Lifecycle Manager integration user section.

  5. From the User Details screen, click the option to Generate API Keys to generate an API Key and an API Secret Key for this user. The generated API credentials appear beside the relevant labels.

    1. The API Secret Key will be hidden for security reasons after navigating away from this page. Once the keys are generated, take note of the API credentials and manually copy the API credentials.

    2. The API URL field is added to the User Details page when API access is enabled for the Datto RMM account.

  6. Click Save in Datto RMM

In case you forget your API credentials, simply return to the page and click Regenerate API Keys. Any previously generated API keys will be invalidated. Similarly, clicking Delete API Keys revokes access altogether.

When adding the Datto RMM integration to Lifecycle Manager, you will need to add the API key and API Secret Key to the Datto RMM integration page.
