Datto RMM integration instructions

This article provides instructions on how to integrate Datto RMM to Lifecycle Manager to pull configuration items from Datto RMM. API keys should be associated with a user account that is separate from your Datto RMM administrative account.

Prerequisites

The following is required for integrating Datto RMM with Lifecycle Manager:

  • You must have Administrator user credentials for your Datto RMM account

  • You must have Administrator user credentials for your Lifecycle Manager account or member permissions of Manage Sync Settings selected

  • a non-administrative Datto RMM user

API credential generation - Only Datto RMM administrator users can generate API credentials when they are logged into Datto RMM. Datto RMM users without administrative rights cannot generate API credentials.

To successfully integrate Datto RMM with Lifecycle Manager, please follow these steps in each article section:

Integration steps in Datto RMM

  1. Create a Lifecycle Manager integration user

  2. Activate API

Integration steps in Lifecycle Manager

  1. Add API credentials to Lifecycle Manager

An important aspect of the Datto RMM integration is that it’s an API key that can only be used to access data through the API- it’s not possible to sign into Datto RMM with an API key, nor can permissions be changed on it. To minimize any potential risk concerns when making requests to the API, we strongly suggest creating a user with zero security level permissions.

Integration steps in Datto RMM

Using Datto RMM current interface (NEW UI)
The integration steps in this article are based on the Datto RMM current interface (NEW UI). Integration instructions for the previous interface are in the following Datto RMM integration instructions - previous user interface integration article.

Create a Lifecycle Manager integration user

You need to create a Datto RMM user that will be associated with your Lifecycle Manager integration (we recommend doing this as it makes managing users easier). Datto RMM usernames need to be unique across the entire platform. Accordingly, we can tell you that "scalepad" is already taken.

  1. Within the Datto RMM menu, navigate to Setup Users. The Users view displayed is where you add and manage users.

  2. Click the Create User button.

  3. In the Details section, enter a unique username. Using an email address is recommended.

  4. In the Security section, select the user's security level by selecting the Security levels drop-down and selecting the appropriate security level. Administrative rights are not required for this user. An example security level is displayed in the following image.

  5. Click the Create User button.

Activate API

First, the API needs to be enabled for the entire Datto RMM account. For each user requiring API access, an API Key and API Secret Key must be generated.

  1. Sign in to Datto RMM account as an Administrator

  2. Within the Datto RMM menu, navigate to Setup Global Settings

  3. In the Access Control section, set the Enable API Access to ON.
When the Enable API Access toggle is set to ON, you are able to generate API credentials (API Key and API Secret Key).

  4. Click Setup Users and select the username for which API access is desired. See Create the Lifecycle Manager integration user.

  5. From the User Details - API section, click the option to Generate API Keys to generate an API Key and an API Secret Key for this user. The generated API credentials appear beside the relevant labels.

    1. The API Secret Key will be hidden for security reasons after navigating away from this page. Once the keys are generated, take note of the API credentials and copy the API credentials.

    2. The API URL field is added to the User Details page when API access is enabled for the Datto RMM account.

  6. Click Save User in Datto RMM
