Creating initiatives

Creating Initiatives doesn’t have to just be done through the Insights pane. If you need to, you can create Initiatives outside the Insights pane in order to implement solutions to specific problem assets.

Initiatives can be created in Lifecycle Manager from a few different places, including:

  • directly from a client-level Insight

  • from the Roadmap view or List view

How to create an Initiative from a client-level Insight

From the details of predefined client insights, you can create an Initiative (similar to a project) to mitigate critical asset issues and execute a proactive approach to asset management.

For example, let’s assume you’ve been reviewing several insights for a client. You focus on an insight for old servers without warranty coverage. Once selected, you 'create an initiative' to propose to replace these servers with the client, which populates the listed assets in a basic initiative view.

Here are the steps to do that:

  1. Click into the desired insight you want to take action on

  2. From the detailed Client Hardware console, select the desired assets to be added to an Initiative.

  3. Click the + Add to Initiative button.

  4. From the Take action on this asset dialog, under the Add to heading, click + New Initiative and select from the list of Initiative templates. For example, select Server Replacement.

  5. Once the desired template is selected, click Finish.

Default template recommendations - When deciding to select a template for an initiative, ScalePad Lifecycle Manager defaults to a 'suggested' template based on the selected Insight or included assets. For example, when creating an initiative from High-risk servers, the suggested templates for use are Cloud Migration and Server Replacement.

How to create Initiatives within the Roadmap

You can find all client initiatives and their respective statuses on the Roadmap view or List view. You can create new Initiatives and add assets to them manually at a later point in time.

Here are the steps to do that:

  1. From the Roadmap, click the New Initiative button.
  2. Schedule the Initiative to a specified quarter. (or leave as unscheduled)
  3. Within the Initiative, click the Apply template button
  4. Select from the list of existing templates.
  5. Once the desired template is selected, click Apply template.
  6. Enter or adjust budget line items and any one-time and/or recurring fees.
  7. Click the Add assets… button.
  8. Select the assets to include in the Initiative and click the Add assets button.
  9. Click Save changes.
