Uploading Assessment templates (New UI)

If you have an existing assessment template you want to use in Lifecycle Manager, you can upload it from the assessment templates page.

Assessment templates must be in a specific JSON format before they can be used, so we've provided a custom GPT that converts your existing template into a format Lifecycle Manager can recognize.

The new Lifecycle Manager UI is in Open Beta
You might notice occasional changes as we continue to refine this feature.

Note for Lifecycle Insights users: If you have existing assessment templates in Lifecycle Insights, they can be migrated directly to Lifecycle Manager. See Migrating Assessment Templates from Lifecycle Insights to Lifecycle Manager for more information.

What you'll need:

  • A ChatGPT account, to use the Custom GPT.

Note: Most partners should use the GPT converter to create the assessment template JSON file. If you build or edit a JSON file manually, it must follow strict rules to import correctly.

See JSON requirements below before uploading.

Navigating to assessment templates

  1. Click your account name in the upper left corner of any page.
  2. Click Account Settings.
  3. In the Settings section, click Assessments.

Converting an existing template

Templates and Assessments exported from other platforms, like Lifecycle Insights, can be converted and imported into Lifecycle Manager.

  1. Click + New template.
  2. Click Import from JSON.
  3. In the Import Template modal, click the link to the Custom GPT Converter.
Note: ScalePad uses an Enterprise ChatGPT license to run this GPT. Data entered into it isn't accessible or used for AI training.
  1. In the ChatGPT text box, upload your existing assessment and ask for it to be converted to a reusable assessment template.
  2. Once complete, download the JSON file and save it somewhere accessible.

Importing your converted template

  1. Return to the assessment templates page in Lifecycle Manager and click Upload JSON file in the Import Template modal.
  2. Choose the file you downloaded from the Custom GPT converter and click Import template.
  3. Review the template and make adjustments where necessary. For guidance on editing categories and items, see Building assessment templates (New UI).

JSON requirements

If you build or edit an assessment JSON file manually, review the following rules before uploading. Files that don't meet these requirements fail to import.

Content limits

  • Assessment titles must be 100 characters or fewer.
  • Category titles must be 300 characters or fewer.
  • Assessments can include up to 300 questions.
  • Question descriptions must be 1,000 characters or fewer.

Response type rules

  • Multi-choice questions must use the MultiResponse type.
  • Each MultiResponse question must include all four response labels:
    AtRisk, NeedsAttention, Satisfactory, and NotApplicable.
  • YesNo and Partial questions can only use those specific response types.

File structure

  • The file must be valid JSON. Missing brackets, trailing commas, or other formatting issues prevent import.
  • The file must begin with this exact root key: assessment_template_create_payload.

Tips

  • When copying JSON from the GPT converter, paste it into a plain-text editor before saving, to avoid hidden formatting.
  • Large assessments can generate multiple JSON sections. If you combine them, use a JSON validator to confirm the structure is complete and properly formatted.
