Create an initiative whenever you spot work worth planning for a client, then link it to the goals, meetings, hardware, and assessment questions it supports. You can start from scratch or from an Initiative template.

The new Lifecycle Manager UI is in Open Beta You might notice occasional changes as we continue to refine this feature. |

Who can use this feature?

How to create an initiative from the Roadmap
- In the left navigation panel, under Plan, click Roadmap. To create an initiative for one client, select that client in the client picker first.
- Click New initiative.
- Enter a title for the initiative. You can also add a description.
- If you're on the all-clients Roadmap, click Client and select the client. A client is required.
- (Optional) To start from a template, click Template and select one. The template fills in the title and description, and you can edit anything before you create the initiative. To remove it, click Undo.
- (Optional) Set any other details you already know: status, priority, schedule, point of contact, and fees.
- Click Create initiative.
The initiative appears on the Roadmap, in the column for its schedule. If you didn't set a schedule, it appears in Not scheduled.
| Note: If you change the client after setting a schedule or point of contact, those two fields are cleared. While a template is selected, you can't set fees, because the template adds its own budget lines. |
To create several initiatives in a row, turn on Create more before you click Create initiative. The window stays open for the next one.
To add more details, such as tags, linked items, or attachments, open the initiative. For more information, see About the initiative detail view.
How to create an initiative in a board column
On the Roadmap board, you can create an initiative right in the column where it belongs.
- At the top of a column, click +.
- Enter a title, and set any details you need. The column's quarter (or status) is already filled in.
- Click Create.
To start from a template instead, click the ... icon at the top of the column and select a template.
How to create an initiative from the calendar or LaunchPad
You can also create an initiative without opening the Roadmap:
- Calendar: Click a day, or click Add, and then select Initiative. The schedule is set to that month.
- LaunchPad: Click the LaunchPad box at the top of the screen, and then select Initiative from the Quick Create menu.
Both open the same fields as the Roadmap.
How to link an initiative to another item
You can link an initiative, or create a new one and link it, from these items:
- Goals and Meetings: From the goal's or meeting's detail view, add an initiative to its linked items.
- Hardware: Select one or more assets, and then click Actions > Link to Initiative.
- Assessments: From an assessment question, select Link to Initiative.
Then, in the window that opens, do one of the following:
- To link an initiative that already exists, click Link existing, search for the initiative, and select it.
- To create a new initiative and link it, click Create new, enter the details (you can use a template here too), and click Create.
